Rocky Mountain High

It's twins!!!! They're measuring within a day of eachother and have nice strong heartbeats of 128 and 127 beats per minute (bpm).

The ultrasound tech could tell how nervous we were and she scarcely had the dildo cam in before she said "It's two!". Thank goodness she came out with it so fast, my heart was about to jump out of my chest. Then we saw the little flutters of their hearts - you don't hear the heartbeat at this early stage, but you can see a little flicker on the ultrasound. It's utterly amazing.

We met with the doctor afterwards, but I admit that I didn't really take in much of what he was saying. We did take home a big information pack. My next ultrasound is in two weeks' time. I'm glad we can have one so soon. I think he'll let me have ultrasounds whenever I want them.....

I continue to feel sick as a dog but I'll take it all on the chin.

  2. That is such great news! I am so excited for you! thanks for the ideas for driving GF. I was toying with the idea of GF pasta salad- have you tried the ancient grains Quinoa pasta? its yummy! You can barely tell the difference- I've been feeding it to DH:-) Are you doing the GF through pregnancy too? Gotta go find some good GF crackers for that nausea!!!

Get as many u/s's as you want! I've also been given the go-ahead by DH to rent a doppler this time. I think it is secretly so he can feel comfortable with how things are progressing...but he says it will be for me:-)

  8. Congratulations!!!

We are so happy for you! We have been following your journey very closely because we were so impressed with your determination and strength.
And because we have so much in common.
Dear Jessica and J the Elder,
may I have your e-mail address - we would like to get to know you.

We are 39 y.o. physician and 45 y.o lawyer who met on e-harmony in 2005, got married in 2008 and had our first IVF cycle in CCRM in March 2009. We plan to to FET in July.

Jessica, I hope that you are feeling better.

These are some recommendations for safe products in pregnancy:
    Stretch marks:Nikianna's Naturals-
The only all natural stretch mark oil and balm that contains no preservatives, chemicals or Vitamin A (shouldn't use Vit A in pregnancy). Safe in all trimesters. Great on your nipples if they are dry from breastfeeding. It prevents new stretch marks but also fades the old ones. Don't need a prescription you get it online at www.nikiannas.com. Don't use Palmer's or cocoa butter- it's cheap because it doesn't work.
Colds- It's flu season. You don't need antibiotics unless your cold lasts for 10 days or more, or you are coughing up nasty green and gray stuff. Use Tylenol products in pregnancy, NOT Ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil). Sudafed is ok after the first trimester. Benadryl is fine. Avoid cough medications, some contain alcohol.
Constipation- all natural prune juice or prunes. Milk of Magnesia is good. Not stimulants like Ex-Lax, unless you want to feel like you are going to die from stomach cramps. Increase the fiber in your diet- that helps too. Metamucil is fine.
Nausea- the key here is to stay hydrated and avoid the emergency room. How? Take your prenatal vitamins at night (less nausea) or in the first trimester if you are really nauseated, just take folic acid (that's all you really need initially). Frequent small meals help, but try not to drink and eat at the same time. Drink water or Gatorade, then an hour later try eating something bland (toast with nothing on it, no butter, jam etc. or rice- plain nothing on it). People always say eat crackers but the salt in them makes some sick.
Heart Burn- try to sleep with a pillow under your back to elevate your diaphragm. Pepcid, Mylanta, Maalox, Tums are safe in pregnancy.
Cough: Robitussin DM, Tylenol products, things you would give your children.

    Sincerely yours,

    Natasha ZW, MD

  10. Hi Jessica,
First off, I want to say congratulations. Next, I want to introduce myself -- I've been a bit of a lurker since I randomly came across your blog after googling "Atlanta and CCRM" to see whether there were any Atlanta ladies thinking about cycling or who had done so already with them. I figured it was high time that I introduced myself and thanked you for posting your experiences. I'm just beginning this journey, but your words, unbeknownst to you, have provided me with encouragement and even laughter. On the day that my best friend announced her pregnancy after being off BCP for a month, only after thinking that if my DH and I were having such a struggle, that she and her DH should get moving, I turned to my fellow infertiles on the web for support and found a few blogs that have made me feel not as alone. I know this is so bizarre to introduce myself to a stranger whose blog I've been reading, but I think with the world of blogging, these things are becoming the norm. Needless to say, I wanted to thank you. I have a phone consult with CCRM next week and your blog has helped me with some of my questions about cycling from out-of-town. Good luck,
    Michelle
